Austin and Matt: Questionable fundraising habits and Chadwick's own Bernie Madoff

We’re back with a scandal that Time Magazine calls the juiciest controversy since Beezin.

Ask yourself: have you ever read terms and conditions in your entire life? Do you just mindlessly accept terms and conditions TRUSTING that companies won’t completely screw you over? We know we do.

Recently, a club at Chadwick has gone and breached a foundation of trust of equal importance to the trust that exists between a person and the terms and conditions: the trust within the Chadwick community that fundraising products will be sold in quality condition and at a reasonable price.

Doodle4Earth spent an entire week selling stale donuts at a savage $2.50. Donuts are typically sold at a respectable $1.00, and students across campus expected these donuts to be sold at the same price.

“I didn’t know what I was getting into,” said violated Chadwick student Nic Thomson. “They sold me 5 stale donuts without telling me the price or where the money was even going. It was all a blur.”

Doodle4Earth’s abuse of Chadwick Students’ trust should be a lesson for the Chadwick community: all future Chadwick fundraisers should advertise their prices.

Furthermore, a poll of the F period AP US history class showed that 15 out of 15 students have no idea about the particulars of the Doodle4Earth operation or where the money goes.

Many students speculate that the money from Doodle4Earth goes to funding Doodle4Earth black sites in various developing countries where the club leaders test their aggressive marketing techniques on unsuspecting indigenous populations.

Raising awareness about where the funds from fundraisers are going is a very important aspect of Chadwick fundraising, and a lack of this advertising was the first step in breaching the trust of the Chadwick community.

Doodle4Earth not telling customers that their stale donuts cost $1.50 more than the price fresh donuts are usually sold at is principally the same as Apple tricking you into agreeing to be a sex slave through a terms and conditions document.

However, the conspiracy doesn’t stop there. The most obvious parallel that can be drawn between this club leader and the real world would be that of Bernie Madoff--the former operator of the largest Ponzi scheme in American history--who defrauded the American people for millions of dollars.

Like Madoff, this leader has defrauded the Chadwick community for anywhere between $50-200.

“I bought close to 100 donuts,” said infuriated student Quinn Jones. “My flaming hot cheeto funds are drained.”

Obviously, there needs to be more club-student transparency to protect students from corrupt factions such as Doodle4Earth.

But what about when students found out how outrageous the prices of Doodle4Earth’s stale donuts were?

Some (although the numbers are minuscule) still chose to purchase said stale donuts.

Saying that these people, who bought stale donuts knowing the outrageous price, did so willingly is one of the great fallacies of the 21st century. They were forced to by a lack of other options.

With the cafeteria’s new ID policy, students everywhere have been forced to turn to less legitimate food vendors who offer low quality food at high prices without the paper trail that an ID leaves behind.
